The XXI SEA Games

Kuala Lumpur

8 - 17 September 2001

Mr. Ong Cheng Young is an Intern with the Olympic Council of Malaysia since 1st June, 2001. The Internship is part of the necessary requirements for a Bs. in Recreation & Sport Management, with the Indiana State University (U.S.), which Mr. Ong is pursuing.

Cheng Young was drawn to the 21st SEA Games which Malaysia is host and subsequently approached the Olympic Council of Malaysia. Dato' Sieh Kok Chi, Secretary General of the Olympic Council of Malaysia, has agreed to act as supervisor to Mr. Ong for the duration of the internship.

For the 21st SEA Games, Mr. Ong has been poring over past records, previous Games reports, books and articles in order to compile, as accurately as possible, fact sheets of the SEA Games. The job is not easy, many of the records and reports contradict with one another, occasionally erroneous or simply missing.

What Mr. Ong is doing is long overdue....accurate, reliable fact sheets of Malaysia's performance in International Multi-sport events are certainly what is expected of the Olympic Council of Malaysia and as such, Mr. Ong's assistance and intelligent handling of the data has proved invaluable to OCM. His Internship will end on the 30th September 2001.

Mr. Ong also coaches Basketball (part-time) with the Hin Hua High School.
