The Annual General Meeting of the Malaysian Olympians Association (MOA) for the term 2017-2018 was held on Sunday, 24 February 2019, at the Dewan Tan Sri Hamzah, Royal Selangor Club, Bukit Kiara Annex.
The Annual General Meeting was attended by 27 prominent Olympians namely Lt. Cdr. Karu Selvaratnam (Athletics), Dato’ Nashatar Singh (Athletics), Dato M. Rajamani (Athletics), Dato’ N. Sri Shanmuganathan (Hockey), Dato’ R. Yogeswaran (Hockey), Stephen Van Huizen (Hockey), Jeffrey Ong (Swimming), Nurul Huda Abdullah (Swimming), Khoo Cai Lin (Swimming), Yuan Yu Fang (Athletics), Josephine Mary (Athletics), Noreseela Mohd Khalid (Athletics), Ong Ewe Hock (Badminton), Josiah Ng (Cycling), Leong Mun Yee (Diving) and a few others.
The Annual General Meeting was officiated by Dato’ Sri Mohamad Norza Zakaria, President of OCM.
In his speech, Dato’ Sri Norza urged the MOA to play an active role in the Olympic Movement in Malaysia. He hopes the MOA could initiate more activities and programs which are in line with the mission and purpose of the World Olympians Association (WOA).
He also suggested the MOA to engage more fellow Olympians for their programs and at the same time keep a proper database of their fellow Olympians. Finally, he advised the MOA to strengthen its administration and finance.
Dato’ Sri Norza then presented a grant of RM 3,300 from the OCM to the MOA, to subsidize the life membership fee for 31 Olympians of Rio Olympics and 2 Olympians of PyeongChang Winter Olympics.
Other OCM Executive Board members present during the Annual General Meeting were Dato’ Seri Azim Zabidi, Deputy President of OCM and Dato’ Mohd Nazifuddin, Secretary General of OCM.
In attendance also was Ms. Jovina Choo, the Asian Development Officer of WOA, an Olympian in Sailing, who is based in Singapore.
Dato’ Sieh Kok Chi was born on the 8th of November 1938. After his retirement in 1991, as an Engineer in the Department of Irrigation and Drainage Malaysia, Dato’ Sieh chose to continue his involvement, full time, in the field of sports, where his life-long passion was, especially in the Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM).
Born on 21st March 1949, Y.A.M Tunku Tan Sri Imran is the second son of the late Tuanku Jaafar, an elected monarch of the Negeri Sembilan. Tunku Imran was educated in the UK at the King’s School, Canterbury and studied law at Nottingham University before being called to the Bar at Gray’s Inn, London in 1971 and qualifying as a Barrister at Law.
