The team players were the Sidek brother, Jalani, Razif, Rahman & Rashid, Foo Kok Keong, Kwan Yoke Meng, Cheah Soon Kit, Soo Beng Kiang and Wong Ewe Mun. The 1992 Thomas was the 17th tournament with the final stage held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on May 16, 1992. 54 teams took part in the competition, and 8 teams qualified for the Final Stage, including China, as defending champion, and Malaysia, as host team.

Malaysia qualified for the semi-finals after finishing 2nd in the group. The finals was between Malaysian and China, who had the world’s best player — Zhao Jianhua — as their top singles player. The Sidek’s sons played an important role in winning the Cup, with the finishing provided Cheah Soon Kit and Soo Beng Kiang in the men’s doubles. It was a glorious moment for Malaysians when they won the 5th Thomas Cup title in 1992.
