Y.Bhg. Dato’ Dr. Harjit Singh was born on 10th April 1950, son of former renowned Kilat Club Cricketer, Meva Singh. He started his cricket profession by played for the English College, Johor Bharu from 1963 to 1966. At the of tender age of 16, he became the youngest player to represent Johor in Senior Malaysian Cricket League. He captained his Medical College XI and represented Ranchi Universiti and Dhanbad District while studying medicine in India. He returned to play Cricket for Malaysia in 1980. From 1982 untill 1985, he captained Johor Cricket Team in the National League. As an official, he held various positions in Cricket starting as President of Johor Cricket Council since 1987 to the present day and Deputy President of Malaysian Cricket Association from 1990 to 2003. He was also the founder of the first Cricket programme in primary school not only in Johor State but also in Malaysia in 1987. For all his contribution, he has been recognised and awarded the Johor Sports Leadership Awards at 1989, 1995 and 2007. In appreciation of his services to Cricket, he was awarded Anugerah Khas by His Majesty The Yang Di Pertuan Agong Malaysia (King of Malaysia) in 1998.
