Datuk A. Sani Karim holds a Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Civil Engineering from the University of Birmingham (1976). He was elected as a Vice President of the Olympic Council of Malaysia for the term 2005-2007 and 2009-2011 and was elected the Deputy President for the term 2011 to 2013. He was the Chef de Mission of Asian Games Doha 2006 at Doha. He held various positions in squash starting as a Committee member of Squash Raquets Association of Malaysia (SRAM) from 1994-1999 and the Chairman of Squash Racquets Association of Kuala Lumpur from 1997-2005.

He was a Vice President of Worlds Squash Federation from 2002 until 2006 and served as a President of SRAM from 2004-2010 and Asian Squash Federation (2009 – 2013). Currently he holds the positions of Emeritus President of Asian Squash Federation & Patron of Squash Racquets Association of Kuala Lumpur. He also was a member of National Coaching Board (2005-2007) and Sport Advisory Panel, Ministry of Youth and Sports.
