Datuk Wira Mazlan Ahmad was actively involved in Cycling from 1972 until 1987 as the Assistant Secretary of Selangor Cycling Association and then Secretary of Kuala Lumpur Cycling Association. He also served as the Secretary and later elected Vice President of the Malaysian National Cycling Federation. He was appointed the Deputy Chef de Mission of the Malaysian Contingent to the Sea Games Jakarta 1987; Sea Games Kuala Lumpur 1989; Olympics Games Barcelona 1992 and Atlanta 1996 and Commonwealth Games Kuala Lumpur 1998. He was Chef de Mission for the Sea Games Kuala Lumpur 2001 where Malaysia became the overall champion for the first time.

Besides actively contributing to the development of Cycling , he also served as the Deputy Director General of the National Sports Council in 1983 until 1993 before his appointment as the Director General of the National Sports Council in 1993. He served as NSC Director General for 12 years and retired in 2005.
