Jeffrey Ong was born on 30 April 1972 and was a household name in Aquatics in the 1980s and early 1990s. He represented Malaysia at the 1988 Seoul Olympics Games at the age of 16 years and 1992 Barcelona Olympic Games.
He was placed in the top 20 in the 1,500m freestyle and his best achievement was a world ranking of 14th in the 1,500m freestyle in 1991. He won 2 silver medals at the 1988 Asian Swimming Championships and 1 silver medal at the 1990 Asian Games. He also competed in 4 SEA Games from 1987 to 1993, picking up a total of 8 gold medals, 1 silver and 1 bronze. He held the National Record for 1,500m Men’s Freestyle for over 20 years.
