Known as the “Iron Lady of Athletics”, Zaiton dominated the grueling heptathlon for over a decade from 1979, and won a handful of gold, silver and bronze medals at SEA Games, Asian Games and Asian Track and Filed meets. She also won the 1982 National Sportswoman of the Year Award. Today, Zaiton, a trained sports psychologist and physical educationist devotes full time to guiding, counseling and motivating youths, especially women, to pursue excellence as athletes, coaches and officials. Marriage and motherhood has not diminished her passion for sports and she remains an inspiring role model for all Malaysians. In 2012, she was awarded the International Olympics Council (IOC) Women and Sports award for Asia at the 5th World Conference on Women and Sport in Los Angeles.
