The Squash Rackets Association of Malaysia (SRAM) agreed with the SEA Games Federation to enter only Malaysia’s second echelon of players for the 23rd SEA Games in Manila, making the squash competition at the SEA Games more balanced and open. Through this decision, SRAM risked not winning the gold medals in Squash for the larger interest of developing and promoting the sport in the Games. For this, SRAM was honoured with the trophy.
