The International Olympic Committee (IOC) awards annually, an IOC Trophy, under various themes. For the year 2010, the theme of the IOC Trophy is ““Sports – Inspiring Young People” and is to be given t the National Olympic Committee of each country, to honour the prominent person or organization, within the sporting community, that has promoted and developed sporting or educational programmes linked to Olympism and aimed at young people.
In line with the theme of the 2010 IOC Trophy “Sports – Inspiring Young People” and for its dedicated contributions to sports development for youth, the Olympic Council of Malaysia has selected Department of Sports, Arts and Cocuriculum, Ministry of Education Malaysia’s as the recipient of 2010 IOC Trophy.
The Ministry of Education Malaysia’s is planning the transformation of education to be implemented next year with the 1 Student 1 Sports Policy, and Department of Sports, Arts and Cocuriculum , Ministry of Education Malaysia’s as the responsible parties that will implement this policy to all schools in Malaysia.
1 Student 1 Sports Policy is a sports programme for all students interested in sports participation. Through this policy, the Department of Sports, Arts and Cocuriculum , Ministry of Education Malaysia’s implementing strategic action with financial assistance to sports school, student shall be weighted for their involvement in sports activities, the school sports programme to be implemented during the year, establishment of separate sports section, element of sports included in the Standard for Quality Education and identification of five (5) teacher training institute in Malaysia for the training of sports teachers.
With 1 Student 1 Sports Policy is the first, also completed scope of sports development in schools as the High Performance Schools Sports programme specifically for developing athletes in the school of excellence has been implemented since July 2008. With 1 Student 1 Sports Policy the Department of Sports, Arts and Cocuriculum , Ministry of Education Malaysia’s also successful promote and develop sports to all young students in Malaysia.
