Wong Choong Hann was born on 17th February 1977 and has been Team Captain for Malaysia National Tram from 2002 to 2008. During his involvement in badminton, his highest ranking was in 2003 when he became the World No.1. He was a household name in Badminton Association Malaysia until 2008 and continued to play internationally under a private sponsors hip until his retirement in December 2012. Throughout his career as a badminton player, he won two gold medals in Men’s Singles and Team events at the 1998 Commonwealth games hosted by Kuala Lumpur. In 2006 Commonwealth Games Melbourne, he won a silver medal for singles event and gold medal for the team event.

He also competed in various world tournaments and won the gold medal such as Dutch Open in 1997, China Open in 2001 and 2002, Dutch Open in 2002 and Chinese Taipei Open and Copenhagen Masters in 2003. In 2003, he won a silver medal at the World Championships final in a thrilling three-game match between the veterans Xia Xuanze from China.
