OCM Executive Board reviews its activities amidst Covid-19 pandemic

The Executive Board of the Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) held its 19th meeting for the term 2018 – 2021 this morning, via videoconference. The meeting, chaired by OCM’s President, Dato’ Sri Norza Zakaria, received updates from its various committees, including events which were affected by the Covid-19 pandemic, as well as the impact on National Sports Associations and the OCM.

Where athletes are concerned, as a number of International Federations have now confirmed their competition calendar, the OCM is working closely with the National Sports Council and the National Sports Institute for athletes in the Road to Tokyo 2020 program to return to training as early as first week of June 2020 provided clearance is given by the respective government authorities.

On non-Covid19 related matters, it was agreed that:

  • A task force will be set-up to review the OCM Constitution which was last updated in May 2018. It is the aim of the Executive Board to present an updated OCM Constitution incorporating modern standards of transparency and governance at this year’s Annual General Meeting which is anticipated to be held in the 4th quarter of this year.
  • To engage the Independent Panel of OCM Selection Criteria Review to re-evaluate the selection criteria taking into consideration the feedback and experiences of the 30th SEA Games 2019.
