OCM WOMEN & SPORT WEBINAR 2021
The OCM Women & Sport Committee organised the OCM Women & Sport Webinar, on Monday, 8 March 2021, from 10.00 am to 12.30 pm via online platform. The theme of the Webinar was “Sports during Covid-19: Challenges for Women and the Way Forward”. The Opening Ceremony was officiated by Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Mohamad Norza Zakaria, President of OCM.
The OCM Women & Sport Committee has invited the following speakers from various stakeholders in sports to discuss the challenges faced by women and in what best ways they can find solutions to move forward during the period of Covid-19:
a. Ms. Jennifer Yong Chia Chia, Head of Sports Development, Women in Sports Secretariat, National Sports Council (NSC).
b. Mr. Halim Saad, Principal Assistant Director, Development & Sports Excellence Unit, Sports, Co-Curricular & Arts Division, Ministry of Education (MOE).
c. Ms. Nur Hidayatun Fadillah Mohd Nor, Principal Assistant Director, Health Education Division, Ministry of Health (MOH).
d. Ms. Joanne Quay, Assistant Director, Youth Development Department, Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM).
e. Dato’ Paduka Mumtaz Jaffar, Deputy President, Malaysia Athletics Federation (MAF).
f. Mdm Siti Rahmah Othman, National Coach, National Women Hockey Team.
g. Mr. Muhammad Sahir A. Rahim, National Coach, National Sailing Team.
h. Ms. Karen Claire Caballero, Deputy Secretary General, Philippine Olympic Committee (POC).
i. Ms. Shayna Ng Lin Zhi, Member of Women In Sport Committee and Athletes’ Commission, Singapore National Olympic Council (SNOC).
The Master of Ceremony of the Webinar was Mdm. Nurul Huda Abdullah, while the Moderator was Assoc. Prof. Dr. Selina Khoo, from the Centre of Sport and Exercise Sciences, University of Malaya.
The Webinar was attended by over 89 participants (90% are female) from 24 National Sports Associations (NSAs) affiliated to OCM, States Sports Associations (SSAs), Ministry of Education (MOE), National Sports Council (NSC), States Sports Council (SSC) and 5 National Olympic Committees (NOCs) in Southeast Asia namely Indonesia, Myanmar, Philippine, Singapore and Thailand.
A number of OCM Executive Board Members were present to support the Webinar. They were Prof. Dato’ Dr. Shamala Subramaniam (Vice President), Dato’ Ong Poh Eng (Vice President), Dato’ Mohd Nazifuddin (Secretary General), Ms. Moira Tan Siew See (Assistant Secretary General), Mr. Chan Foong Keong (Assistant Secretary General), Dato’ Amarjit Singh Gill (Assistant Treasurer) and Mr. Nicholas Chan Yee Soon (Director of NOA).
The Closing Ceremony was officiated by Dato’ Mohd Nazifuddin, Secretary General of OCM.
