The Penang State Government hosted a Press Conference to announce the organization of the inaugural “Olympic Carnival Penang 2019” and the 2019 Olympic Day Celebration on Wednesday, 6 March 2019, at the Chief Minister’s Office, on 28th Floor of KOMTAR.
The Press Conference was chaired by Y.A.B. Chow Kon Yeow, Chief Minister of Penang.
The other Penang State Government officials in attendance to support the Press Conference were 2 State Executive Council Members namely Y.B. Soon Lip Chee (Youth & Sports) and Y.B. Dr. Afif Bahardin (Agriculture & Agro-Based Industry, Rural Development and Health), Y.B. Heng Lee Lee (State Assemblywoman of Berapit) and Dato’ SR Haji Rozali Mohamud (President of Municipal Council of Seberang Perai).
The OCM was officially represented by Dato’ Seri Azim Zabidi (Deputy President), Dato’ Ong Poh Eng (Vice President) and Dato’ Mohd Nazifuddin (Secretary General).
The Chief Minister of Penang has officially announced that the inaugural “Olympic Carnival Penang 2019” will be held as follows:
- Volleyball (12-16 June 2019)
- Badminton (14-19 June 2019)
- Tenpin Bowling (15-22 June 2019)
- Sepaktakraw (20-22 June 2019)
A Family Fun Walk will be organized to celebrate the 2019 Olympic Day on Sunday, 23 June 2019.
The inaugural “Olympic Carnival Penang 2019” and the Family Fun Walk are opened to all Malaysian and permanent residents in Malaysia.

The Chief Minister of Penang then launched the official logo specially designed for the inaugural “Olympic Carnival Penang 2019”.
The OCM would like to thank the State Government of Penang, the State Sports Associations (Badminton, Volleyball, Sepaktakraw & Tenpin Bowling) and other government agencies namely Penang Island City Council, Penang State Sports Council, Penang State Youth and Sports Department, Penang State Education Department, for their partnership and support in the organization of the inaugural “Olympic Carnival Penang 2019” as well as the 2019 Olympic Day Celebration in Penang in the coming month of June.
Dato’ Sieh Kok Chi was born on the 8th of November 1938. After his retirement in 1991, as an Engineer in the Department of Irrigation and Drainage Malaysia, Dato’ Sieh chose to continue his involvement, full time, in the field of sports, where his life-long passion was, especially in the Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM).
Born on 21st March 1949, Y.A.M Tunku Tan Sri Imran is the second son of the late Tuanku Jaafar, an elected monarch of the Negeri Sembilan. Tunku Imran was educated in the UK at the King’s School, Canterbury and studied law at Nottingham University before being called to the Bar at Gray’s Inn, London in 1971 and qualifying as a Barrister at Law.
