Malaysia competed at the 2018 Summer Youth Olympics in Buenos Aires, Argentina from 6 October to 18 October 2018. The chef-de-mission of the contingent was former two-time Olympian archer Cheng Chu Sian. The OCM sent a total of 10 athletes to compete across 8 sports games. Malaysia won its first gold medal at an Olympic event, having previously won silver and bronze medals.
Goh Jin Wei became the first athlete to win a Youth Olympic Games gold medal for Malaysia the second Malaysian to emerge victorious at the Youth Olympics since shuttler Cheam June Wei, who won mixed doubles gold under the Mixed-NOCs flag in 2014, and the national men’s junior hockey 5s squad claimed the second gold medal for the Malaysian.
Meanwhile, national teen gymnast Rayna Hoh Khai Ling bagged a silver through mixed multi-discipline team in Gymnastics was not credited to the individual nation’s medal tally as the event was a mixed-national Olympic Committees event in which athletes from different nations team up to compete under the Olympic flag.
