Y.B. Soon Lip Chee chaired the first Organizing Committee Meeting of the Olympic Carnival Penang 2019

Y.B. Soon Lip Chee, Penang State Executive Council for Youth and Sports, chaired the first Organizing Committee Meeting of the inaugural “Olympic Carnival Penang 2019” to be held in conjunction of this year’s Olympic Day Celebration in the month of June in Penang.

The OCM was represented by its Vice President Dato’ Ong Poh Eng, Secretary General Dato’ Mohd Nazifuddin and General Manager Mr. Fong Wan Hor.

The meeting was also attended by representatives from the following agencies:

    • Royal Malaysia Police
    • Penang Island City Council
    • Penang State Sports Council
    • Protocol Department of Penang State
    • Universiti Sains Malaysia
    • The Scout Association of Malaysia – Penang
    • St. John Ambulance Malaysia – Penang
    • Bintang Harapan Youth and Recreation Sports Club

The Penang State Executive Council for Youth and Sports Office has appointed the Heads of Department of the following 11 sub-committees to facilitate the organization of the inaugural Olympic Carnival in Malaysia:

  1. Marketing & Sponsoring Committee
  2. Finance Committee
  3. Protocol Committee
  4. Logistics, Transport & Venues Committee
  5. Technical & Competition Committee
  6. Security & Traffic Committee
  7. Medical Committee
  8. Media & Publicity Committee
  9. Volunteering Coordinator
  10. Family Fun Walk Committee
  11. Secretariat

The Organizing Committee has identified 4 sports (2 Olympic sports & 2 non-Olympic sports) for the Olympic Carnival:

  1. Badminton
  2. Volleyball
  3. Sepaktakraw
  4. Tenpin Bowling

Further information of the “Olympic Carnival Penang 2019” will be announced during its official launch on Thursday, 28 February 2019, in Penang.

After the meeting, Y.B. Soon Lip Chee accompanied Dato’ Ong PohEng and Dato’ Mohd Nazifuddin visited to MBPP Relau Sports Complex (proposed venue for Badminton), Azman Hashim USM Sports Arena (proposed venue for Sepaktakraw and Volleyball) and Esplanade, Padang Kota Lama (proposed venue for Family Fun Walk).

Earlier, both Dato’ Ong PohEng and Dato’ Mohd Nazifuddin attended the opening ceremony of the Sports Science Symposium 2019, with the theme “Unleashing Sports Science in Building Champions”, which was officiated by Y.B. Soon Lip Chee, at the Penang Skills Development Centre (PSDC).
